Songpa District has been recognized as a safe city representing the Republic of Korea!

The Ministry of Public Safety and Security reviewed the safety index of 17 metropolitan cities and provinces and 226 local governments in seven areas, such as fires, traffic accidents, natural disasters, crime, safety accidents, suicide, and infectious diseases, and
officially released the results.

Songpa District has reconfirmed its status as a safe city, ranked at the top among the
local governments in the safety index by receiving the highest ranking in four areas (traffic accidents, safety accidents, suicide, and infectious diseases). Such results are more
meaningful in that Songpa District has previously been ranked No. 1 in Seoul and No. 3 in the whole nation in a survey of people’s satisfaction with their quality of life carried out by the Presidential Committee on Regional Development.

Songpa District, in cooperation with related organizations and private social groups, is striving to spread the awareness of safety culture. Through the Songpa News published every 25th, Songpa District conducted the “One Household One Safety Keeper” activity
in an effort to prevent safety accidents at home in advance. In addition, Songpa District is reducing people’s concern and fear of crime by removing the elements that affect the occurrence of crime through the CEPTED strategy, a crime prevention strategy through
environment design.

Meanwhile, Songpa District is providing safety education to 280,000 children every year in the Children Safety Center. The WHO-certified safe city Songpa District is also operating a “Visiting Children Safety Class” for daycare centers. Furthermore, Songpa
District has supported the recipients of basic living security with safety equipment, such as fire alarm monitors, and conducted customized education to prevent safety accidents.
The safety index for each region can be reviewed on the website of the Ministry of Public Safety and Security (www.mpss.go.kr) and the Safe Map (www.safemap.go.kr).
